GO Logic All-Company Winter Meeting: Unconference
On January 27th everyone at GO Logic gathered at our Waldo shop for a full day of conversation, interaction, and socializing. It was the first time we had all been together in one place since January of 2020, and it felt very good to do so. The company has changed a lot in the last 2 years, with many new faces, new ways of operating to be safe during a pandemic, a stronger focus on panelization, amidst a very different world economy and housing market.
The day was structured as an “unconference” with no set topics or sessions pre-determined. After a brief speech by yours truly on the history of the company and vision of the future, we brainstormed topics for break-out sessions. Some of the session ideas were:
How to disseminate better building practices to builders doing code-compliant work
How to improve communication between design staff and build staff
How to better tell the story of GO Logic to the general public
How to foster a better connection to the sacred in our practice, and how fear about the climate crisis affects our work
How to reduce costs by offering more standard home options with limited customizations, bringing the goal of affordable passive homes to a wider audience
We punctuated the day with great local food: pizza from Lincolnville General Store, raw oysters, salads, and sushi from Satori in Belfast. There were great discussions in all the sessions, and a lot of lists of action items to follow up on. All in all it felt really valuable to gather together, get to know each other more, create a safe space for open communication, share ideas, and make plans for the coming year. I look forward to seeing the evolution of ideas generated by the day and to getting together again before too long!
